Why Sitting is the New Smoking

Only 15% of Canadian adults are meeting the recommended level of physical activity, and 69% (10 hours) of their waking hours are spent in sedentary behavior.  Prolonged sitting has been linked to premature death, heart disease, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes. 
 
Due to the increasing sedentary nature of work, especially in knowledge-based industries, the workplace itself can actually increase an individual’s potential to be physically inactive
